SpaceX Bans Zoom App Over Privacy and Security Concerns

The Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-In), the national agency to combat cyber-attacks said the unguarded usage of the Zoom meeting app can be vulnerable to cyber-attacks, including leakage of sensitive office information to cybercriminals. Insecure usage of the platform may allow cybercriminals to access sensitive information such as meeting details and conversations,” it said.

Elon Musk’s SpaceX has banned its staff from the use of Zoom after growing concerns over the privacy and security. SpaceX has also told its employees not to use Zoom. SpaceX sent a memo to its employees on stating that employees shouldn’t use Zoom. “We understand that many of us were using this tool for conferences and meeting support. Please use email, text or phone as alternate means of communication,” the memo noted.

“we recognize that we have fallen short of the community’s – and our own – privacy and security expectations. For that, I am deeply sorry. Over the next 90 days, we are committed to dedicating the resources needed to better identify, address, and fix issues proactively. We are also committed to being transparent throughout this process,” Zoom founder and CEO Eric S Yuan in a blog post.

Zoom is facing an investigation by the U.S attorney general over its security and privacy, while a class action lawsuit has been launched after it emerged the firm was sending data to Facebook.
